Fishermen on two stranded boats rescued

QUANG NGAI (VNS) — Two stranded fishing boats carrying 22 fishermen from the central province of Quang Ngai were towed to safety by Zone 2 Marine Police this morning, the radio station Voice of Viet Nam (VOV) reported.

Marine officials said they had received a plea for assistance on Saturday afternoon from a fishing boat located 135 nautical miles northeast of Ly Son Island that had been stranded due to a broken crankshaft.

It was captained by Phan Tan Trieu, a resident of Quang Ngai’s Duc Pho District.

A Zone 2 Marine Police ship was immediately mobilised to rescue the boat.

Yesterday morning, another fishing boat, captained by Tran Minh Vuong from the same district, reported its engine had failed.

It was stranded at sea 110 nautical miles northeast of Ly Son Island.

By 3pm the same day, the marine police rescue ship was able to reach the two boats and started towing them ashore.

Colonel Tran Van Dung of the Zone 2 Marine Police said the fishermen aboard the boats were in good health. The marine police will hand over the boats to local authorities. — VNS
